Healthy Dietpedia Tips, Issue #003 -- Healthy Weight Gain

Last week I have been contacted by one of my reader asking me to give her an advice on weight gain. It is true that while most of us are trying to lose weight, there are those who have a really hard time gaining it. I know at least 5 people who stay extremely thin without following a calorie restricting diet. In fact, their calorie intake often exceeds the daily norm.
If you are one of those people, or you have accidentally lost too much weight (which you should definitely share with your doctor) here are my recommendations:
First of all you should try to eat 3 large meals a day without snacking in between. Contrary to what many believe, you do not need to jump into eating tons of carbs and all junk food you can find. This will only mess up your digestion. You need to slowly increase your lean body mass choosing healthy foods.
Here are a few tips:
1. I suggest to including more cottage cheese and yogurt into your daily menu to stimulate the absorption of nutrients from other foods.
2. Try not to snack between your meals to slow down your metabolism. 3. Eat carbs in the morning (such as oatmeal, whole grain breakfast cereal, and pasta in the first half of your day and focus on proteins in the evening. 4. Do not be afraid to eat right before you bedtime. 5. Drink herbal teas that stabilize digestion. 6. Learn how to relax: this is the best exercise for your body and mind. Relaxation will help your body to absorb nutrient from food. It is as important to relax frequently for those who want to gain weight as doing cardio for those who want to lose it.
